1837. Lady Northland, at her renter home of Braehead House is holding a picnic, to review setting up a charity for the highlanders arriving in Ballater. Then a death occurs, a murder. But why and by whom, then there is another death discovered. Officer Dod Darris investigates with the help of Hippolyta Napier who is concerned about her doctor husband.
A well-written and entertaining historical mystery with its cast of likeable and varied characters. Another good addition to this enjoyable series.
