Murder on Astor Place by Victoria Thompson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
New York at the turn of the century, while visiting a patient, midwife Sarah Brandt, believes she sees someone she knows, a girl from her old life. Next day as she re-visits her patient, Sarah finds that the girl is dead and Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy asks her to inspect the girls's room. So starts Sarah's involement in the case.
A well-written first in series, an enjoyable mystery, with developing characters. Can't ask for more from a historical mystery.
