Misses Cassandra and Jane Austen have been invited to stay at the home of the Paulsons, at Melmont Hall and are now snowed in. That evening Mr Paulson is discovered dead in his study, with the windows and door all locked. Jane investigates with the help of Colonel Rushton while waiting for the magistrate to arrive. Then there is another death. Is there a link between the deaths, or separate motives.
An entertaining and well-written historical mystery with its cast of varied characters.
