My rating: 4 of 5 stars
1819 Captain Lacey has been given a parcel by James Denis to deliver to the neighbourhood of the Custom House, a parcel which contains a chess piece. Accompanied by Brewster he meets an old army friend, Major Eden, who acquires his help as he is about to be arrested by ex-sergeant Pomeroy, of the Thirty-Fifth Light, for the murder of a Mr George Warrilow.
Another entertaining well-written historical mystery with its cast of delightful characters.
