Cadmus Underwood is aproached by a Mrs Woodforde to look into the reappearance of her husband and daughter after twenty years missing. It is soon to be the daughter Lydia's 25th birhtday,the day she received her inheritance. But who is she really.
Meanwhile he is also asked by old friend Major Jeremy James Thornycroft to prove that the officer that has saved his life his not guilty of theft and therefore been transported to Australia.
Another enjoyable mystery in this well-written series with all its very likeable characters
