Due to rumours, Edmund Blackstone, Bow Street Runner, is assigned to protect the seven year old Princess Alexandrina Victoria from being kidnapped. But when he is attacked he wonders if the assignment is really a waste of time as he has thought.
I enjoyed this well-paced mystery. I found the characters interesting and hope that more of the stories will be re-published.

Why did Rachid Iqbal arrive in Enlgand via Turkey to attack TV historian Oliver Ford. Which DC Hazel Best mainly managed to stop. Hazel's friends - Gabriel Ash and Saturday - grow concerned about her relationship with Ford.
I have not read any of the previous books in the series which didn't present too much of a problem but I didn't really find the plot or characters interesting enough to want to read more.

1895 Leeds, and Henry White has just been released after six months in prison for carrying silver from a robbery and refusing to say who gave him the goods. D.I. Harper waits until the next day to question him, but it is too late and this is only the start of the murders.
Meanwhile is a seperate incident, acid is thrown at a young boy working in a bakery. An unprovoked attack?
This was my first read of a book from this series, easily read as a stand-alone book.
Really enjoyed this well-written, easy to read story. A good mystery and some interesting characters.

Hardcastle's Runaway by Graham Ison

3rd March 1919 and DI Hardcastle is assigned the task of locating the missing daughter of a M.P. Once she goes missing again, this time finding her may not be as easy.
But the impatient, irritable Hardcastle and his poor Sergeant Charles Marriott are determined to solve the crime.
The story had just enough interest to keep going and was a fairly easy read. It can certainly be read as a stand-alone book in the series.

A body of a female is found in the village of Underhill. Discovered my a young man called Kyle Gammage who works for the local vet. Alex Duggins, is the owner of the neighbouring village Folly-on-Weir’s pub, and decides that this time she will not get involved but she is drawn into the case.
Unfortunately I didn't find the story or the characters particularly interesting.

More stories are needed with the minor characters of Jane Austen.
An enjoyable re-read of this tale, setting the story for the next three in the series.

The Sixth Victim by Tessa Harris

Whitechapel 1888 and the story of the murders that occur is told from the viewpoint of two females Kensington, a flower girl from the area and Emily Tindall, a teacher. Does Constance suddenly become possessed of second sight, and if not how is she guided to Miss Pauline Beaufroy who is looking for her lost sister.
An easy writing style, makes for an interesting read with likeable characters which hopefully will appear in the next book in the series.

The story was fair enough though we really didn't learn that much about their characters.

Straightaway I unfortunately found Felicity irritating, and that coupled with for me too much information about Cuthbert and the history of the Church of England, was not a good start to a series I have been looking forward to reading.

An enjoyable story though I am not sure I took to Alice that much, probably too calculating in her actions. But Arndel was an interesting character.

Summer 1889 in London and Detective Inspector Rudyard Bloodstone with his partner Archie Holbrook are chasing a sexual pervert when they are called to the first mysterious death of an influential business man.
Although we know who, and why the murders occur this doesn't distract from enjoying the story, and wondering how it all will end. As this was my first book in the series I was left unsure how this would be resolved. I also liked the characters Bloodstone and Holbrook, and others in the police station, and now look forward to reading the first in the series.

15th July 1812 and Nell Wrotham is arriving in London hoping for help from her ex-fiancee Roger but it is Mordecai Black, Roger's bastard cousin who voluntaries his help. But what are his motives and with his reputation will it be her ruination.
Although this is the fifth in the series it is not necessary to have read the previous books, though I have enjoyed them all.
Another very enjoyable read, excellently written and some lovely characters.

Professor Gavin Stanwyck is intent on discovering Trask's connection to his friend Peter Garner.
A story that is part mystery, spy and romance. An enjoyable well-written read with some very likeable characters.

In this Pride and Prejudice variation the Bennet daughters are being taught household duties at Oxford Cottage on the Longbourn Estate.
As Darcy and Bingley head towards Netherfield Park their directions result in approaching the Cottage during a heavy rainfall. The two gentlemen are quickly captivated but problems soon arrive. And his name is Wickham.
An enjoyable story mainly based around Darcy and Elizabeth, though I found I would have like to have read more about the activities of Lillesley and the Colonel.

Who will Kitty decide she will flirt with and marry.
An enjoyable, easy to read story, of Kitty's growth away from Lydia, and without the expected guidance from her parents.

It's 1821 and Miss Cassandra Blythe has a plan, a ludicrous plan, to make the man, Julian Carnforth, she thinks she loves finally fall in love with her. In her stupidity she continues with her plan with the help of the rake Captain Wycherley. Meanwhile the Earl of Stranraer is searching for his missing sister, and blaming the Captain he enters his employ as the servant Ned Ganstridge. I would have preferred a lot more mystery and less of the romance as I found Cassandra's actions annoying.

1818 and the Rannochs are fleeing to Lake Como.
To me this is not a stand alone book in the series, there are just too many past events and people mentioned to make it so. This book might have been more interesting after having read the previous 12 books so that you have all the background information of these events, and information about the characters to make them more rounded.
For me there was much too much talk and description and not a lot of action or going forward with the mystery.

From almost the beginning of the story Sir Faucon with the help of Brother Edmund are investigating the death.
An enjoyable mystery, with some likable characters.

1897 and Lucy James has woken up outside of the British Museum, unable to remember why or how, and who she is. She must decide who she can trust as she searches for the clues to her identity while solving the mystery of why.
I really enjoyed this mystery, and found it a wonderfully easy read. Unlike the first two in the series this book was not from the point of view of Dr. Watson but Lucy, and I admit I did miss the character in this story. Hopefully he will return in the next installment.

1399 and a civil war looms. With the widow Catherine Clifford wondering at the secrets her mother, Eleanor has with her abrupt arrival in York. While living next door to Catherine, one of Eleanor's beguines or poor sisters is attacked. But this is just the start.
I enjoyed the mystery and the historical setting. I also liked most of the characters but the story seems to lack a spark to keep me totally engrossed. Which is unusual as I have read quite a few books from this author which I have really enjoyed, though some years ago.

But when a new and powerful weapon is stolen, Holmes is brought in to determine any connection, retrieve the stolen weapon and find the possible traitor in Lord Lansdowne, Secretary of War's department.

When barrister Jason Jonquil meets his new client Mariposa Thornton who so infuriates him he is close to losing any dignity he possesses. The seemingly simple brief she offers him is complicated by the persona she has undertaken to hide her real motives. This persona I did find irritating and exasperating but I kept on reading.
I enjoyed the story with its easy and well-written style, and liked the development of the characters as the story progressed. Although the fourth in the series it is a stand alone novel though I am interested enough in reading about the other brothers to start from the beginning of the series.

The militia are in Meryton and this includes Wickham, while the Bingleys and Darcy are at Netherfield. But when Wickham is murdered Darcy becomes the main suspect. Who can clear his name and who is the guilty party. Most of the characters from Meryton are here plus a few new characters.
An enjoyable mystery which thankfully I didn't guess, and so I look forward to the next.

1895 and although Holmes has been asked to aid the Prime Minister of Britain in solving a murder that could threaten a meeting with some very influential Americans he is approached by actress Lucy James to find out her true parentage.
Though not true to canon as Holmes does seem to have a past I still enjoyed the story and liked the characters.

One of the wounded that Nurse Bess Crawford is escorting back to England is Lt. Meriwether Evanson. Pinned to his clothes is a picture of his wife. Later at Portsmouth rail station Bess sees Mrs Marjorie Evanson, with a man, and in great distress. On finding out that Mrs Evanson has been murdered Bess informs the police of what she has seen, and so becomes embroiled in the investigation.
I enjoyed this mystery, the style of writing, and I like the reoccurring characters.
