Murder, Sweet Murder (Will Rees, #11)Murder, Sweet Murder by Eleanor Kuhns
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

January 1801. Lydia Rees has received a letter from her half-sister, Cordelia, asking them to come to Boston to stay with her estranged family, as their father has been associated with a murder, and the resulting sigma has affected badly their social position. She wants Lydia and Will to investigate. But what could be the motive for the murders and by whom.
A well-written and entertaining historical mystery. With its varied and likeable characters though not so much the Farrell family. Another good addition to this series, which can easily be read as a standalone story.

The Independence of Miss Mary BennetThe Independence of Miss Mary Bennet by Colleen McCullough
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a re-read of a P&P sequel. Nearly twenty years have passed since the marriages of the Bennet sisters. But Darcy married to a lively and impertinent Elizabeth is too much for the too thin-skinned man, also being disappointed in his one and only son, combined with the connection to the too lowly, badly behaved Bennets has made the marriage an unhappy one.
Now only Mary remains unwed as she looks after Mrs. Bennet. But all is soon to change and so Mary's adventure begins and she also begins to develop.
I really enjoyed this story which is not just about Mary. But there are happy endings. And yes this is a variation, where characters can change and grow from canon.

Unfortunately the problem with stories of this couple is that there is not any romantic suspense or tension as they always have a happy ending. Therefore interest lies in the pairings of the secondary couple, which in a main case was disappointing.
