In The Beginning, There Was a Murder by P.C. James
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
1953 Newcastle. Marjorie Armstrong, friend to Pauline Riddell, has been murdered. Another killing, that of Thomas Bertram, a gang member, occurred it seems only minutes earlier in the nearby location. The police presume one murderer. Pauline decides on her own investigation. But her prejudice against, and her hounding of a lowly worker who was Marjorie's ex-boyfriend puts her in danger. Unfortunately Pauline comes across as unlikable, snobbish, and stupid in her actions. Hopefully she will improve over the series
But overall a decent start to a new series
