Just as the Earl of Lynster is about to be exposed as a traitor he kills himself and leaves his estranged heir, James, to deal with the aftermath. When Daniel Rivers, the butler, is implicated in the plot the Earl decides he must investigate to remove suspicion from Rivers and himself.
An enjoyable straightforward mystery, with two likeable main characters.
