Inspector Edmund Benedict is sent from Scotland Yard to investigate the murder of Lord Graham Stratford. What secrets could Stratford have that led to his death.
An evil presence leads him to Baelwood Manor and answers of the paranormal kind.
An interesting read though a couple of points - in England there are Ground Floors, then First etc, and paperbacks didn't come along until the 1930's and not during the Victorian period.
