In this P&P variation as Darcy arrives in the neighbourhood he saves Elizabeth Bennet from a raging bull, but it is a compromise, even though an innocent one. As both Bennet parents are eager to see all their daughters married (Mr Bennet because he wants to spend more on books and port) they are forced to become engaged to marry. Into this situation is Mr Collins and his wife who are soon to arrive to stay at Longbourn, even though Mr Bennet is concerned for their safety as he does not trust this disreputable man with any of his daughters.
