The Affacombe Affair (Pollard & Toye Investigations Book 2)The Affacombe Affair by Elizabeth Lemarchand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While working at the school in Affacombe Priory Sister Roach disappears and later a body is discovered. The local police investigate but are unable to discover the guilty party. Therefore they call in Scotland Yard to Affacombe village.
A slow paced mystery set and written in the 1960's where Pollard and Toye don't appear to half way through the book.
An enjoyable story that kept me interested with its plot and characters.

Claire Fitzpatrick returns to Rose Hill after working for the actress from hell to visit her family. At the same time a dead body is discovered and it is someone she knows. With Police Chief Scott Gordon occupied with his dying mother, who will Claire rely on to prove her innocence.
Ths book is less about the mystery and more about the characters in small towns and how they all help each other. Still an enjoyable read.

Mercy's Embrace (Elizabeth Elliot's Story - The Lady Must Decide #3)Mercy's Embrace by Laura Hile
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This Persuasion sequel and Elizabeth Elliot's story continues and concludes. So will she have a happy ending, and who will she marry, if anyone. And what about Lady Russell and her solution to Sir Walter's debts.
Thoroughly enjoyable well-written story. I didn't think anyone could portray Elizabeth as a likeable character, and to feel sorry for her, but it happened. Though I defer anybody to make Mary Musgrove appealing.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In this Pride and Prejudice short story sequel it seems that Lady Catherine has a lover but is he all that he seems. Darcy refuses to leave Elizabeth (as she is near to giving birth) to meet this gentleman, on the orders of Lady Catherine. I felt that the story could have been longer and I wanted it to be longer, and it seemed to end quite abruptly.
But overall an enjoyable quick read

Longbourn's Lark: A Pride and Prejudice Variation (A Convenient Marriage Book 1)Longbourn's Lark: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Meg Osborne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Colonel Fitzwilliam gets lost on his way to Netherfield, he arrives at Longbourn, to ask directions. He is invited to tea by Mr. Bennet and Mary. Into the mix we have Mr. Collins. Is there a happy ending for any of the visitors to Hertfordshire. The first of six novellas.
Felt a need to read a sweet romance between my favourite JAFF couple - the Colonel and Mary Bennet - so I re-read this novella and as I still enjoyed the story it gets 5 stars.

Under the late Mr Darcy's will one og Georgiana's guardian msut marry before her 17th birthday or her guardianship is transfferred to Lady Catherine de Bourgh. By happenstance they both end up visiting Bingley at Netherfield where they meet the Bennet family. Naturally not all goes to plan. Not even with Charles Bingley.
An enjoyable story which has the added bonus of the Fitzwilliam family, always something to look forward to, especially the Colonel.

Set in 1585 at the court of Elizabeth 1 Nicholas Holt, spy and the younger brother of the Earl of Blackwell, is given the task of discovering the murderer of one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting. But this is just the start.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When the body of a doctor is discovered in the town of Bridgton, the local police call in Scotland Yard and Chief Inspector Jonathan Boyce. Amateur detective and friend Mordecai Tremaine has permission to travel with Boyce and become involved in the inquiry.
I enjoyed this well-written mystery and liked the style of writing. The author did provide clues so that it was possibly to find the guilty party. The two main characters are interesting ones, and I may prefer Boyce to Tremaine.
Originally written in 1952 before all the modern forensics were available to the police force.

Dark Queen RisingDark Queen Rising by Paul Doherty
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This new series starts with the Battle of Tewkesbury during the War of the Roses, and the machinations of Margaret Beaufort with her two henchman Reginald Bray and Christopher Urswick. In which Urswick is instructed by George of Clarence to find the guilty party in the deaths of four of his retainers
Unfortunately this first 60% of the book was historical fiction. (When I have wanted to read about this time period I have read history books.) So the first half was a struggle to get through, and then the mystery occurred. Basically a locked room scenario. Then the story became more interesting as did the characters. If this series develops as a mystery series (which is what the book was described as) then I could be tempted to read more.

It is now 1817 and so who will the new Sir Thomas offer marriage to. Susan Price his cousin and the lady he loves, or the lady with enough money to save Mansfield Park from ruin, Mary Crawford. Selling off the sugar plantation in Antiqua is ethically right but would lead to financial ruin.
The story was all right and it was an easy read.
Though I didn't think they had elephants in Antiqua, and slave emancipation arrived in England in 1772 so Mansfield Park would probably not have had any slaves even in the old Sir Thomas' time.
