1924 Maybury-in-the-Marsh. Wealthy Amy Phelps says she believes a ghost of an ancestor is haunting her, but it is unlikely she really believes that. Writer of a ghost book Arbuthnot 'Arbie' Swift and vicar's daughter Valentina Coulton-James spend the night on ghost watch. Several nights later Miss Pnelps is found dead, murdered by cyanide poisoning in her locked bedroom. Inspector Gorringe Investigates, with Arbie and Val deciding to help.
An entertaining historical mystery. A good start to this new series with its likeable main characters.
