At the house part at Chimneys the temporary home of the Cootes it is decided to play a prank on one of the guests. Unfortunately he is discovered dead the next morning. But what is the importance of the seven alarm clocks, and a whispered sentence by another man as he lay dying. Various people decide to investigate including Superintendent Battle.
