In 1820 London the life of rake, Damian Wycliff, illegitimate son of the Marquis of Blackbeck, is saved by Scarlett. In return he gives her his oath that if ever she needs him if will help her. Three years later she is now the widow of Lord Steele and she seeks him out. Someone is trying to kill her and she needs him to discover who.
An enjoyable and interesting well-written mystery and romance. For all their faults some likeable characters are portrayed in the story.
