London 1898. The Tripleys are hosting a dinner party to unveil a recent portrait of Trudy Tripley. When after dinner in a locked study room a murder occurs. Irene, Lady Darling decides to investigate while also sponsoring Miss Priscilla Bedwith for a season. Will she discover the murderer before Scotland Yard's detectives.
An entertaining and well-written historical mystery with its cast of likeable and interesting characters. A good start to this new series.
