The Guardian of Forever is malfunctioning causing the death of planets. So Starfleet Command sends the Enterprise uniting Admiral James T. Kirk, Spock, and Dr. Leonard McCoy to investigate. This will send them back 5000 year to Sarpeidon and Zar. Who has his own problems to solve.
An entertaining story. Another re-read.
