My rating: 4 of 5 stars
June 1929, Rottingdean. By chance Vanessa Bell and Virginia Woolf are invited to the pre-wedding breakfast of wealthy Mimi Mason (her fourth wedding) and cash poor, Archie, Lord Aberbethy (his third). At the event Mimi is poisoned and Chief Inspector Gripe is called in. Bell and Woolf (who comes across as a terrible snob and actually quite unlikeable) decide also to ask questions. A surfeit of suspects confronts them all.
An entertaining and well-written historical mystery with its cast of varied characters.
An ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
