Charles Murray is visiting his friend Coulter, the minister of Kirkwelland. But the quiet of the village is broken when there is a death, the murder of the unpopular Newell. Occupied with thoughts of his daughter and the charming Miss Kitty Herkless, Murray is slow to investigate the large number of suspects and all their possible motives before another death occurs.
Another enjoyable and well-written mystery with its cast of well-drawn characters.
